A facelift helps to improve the signs of ageing on the neck and face.

If you have noticed a loss of skin elasticity in your face and neck, you might consider a facelift. Sagging, lines and wrinkles are all common concerns, but the good news is that these issues can be effectively addressed with surgery.

Read on to find out what a facelift involves, and who is best suited to the procedure...

What is a facelift?

It is natural, as we age, to lose some elasticity in the skin. During a facelift, the facial tissues are lifted and tightened for a more youthful-looking appearance. In some cases, the procedure also involves the removal of excess skin. The procedure focuses on the bottom two-thirds of the face, as well as the neck. Those who would like to address areas of concern around the eyes and brows may consider undergoing a brow or eye lift at the same time as a facelift.

In most cases, your surgeon will make an incision in your hairline close to your temples before removing or redistributing fat and excess skin in the face. The underlying connective tissue and muscle are also redistributed and tightened.

In the case of a neck lift, excess skin and fat are removed from the neck, and the skin is tightened and pulled up. The incisions are typically made to blend seamlessly with the hairline, and should not be noticeable after you have recovered from surgery. Dr Moradi will let you know how best to manage any visible scarring after surgery.

Who is suited to the surgery?

Most people choose to have a facelift in order to address the visible signs of ageing, such as sagging skin and wrinkles. In fact, a facelift can help to resolve a range of issues, including deep creases, descent of facial fat, loss of volume in the face, and loss of definition in the jawline and neck. If you are struggling with any of these concerns, a facelift may be right for you.

Ideal candidates for the procedure are individuals who are in good overall health without any medical conditions that could affect one's ability to recover from surgery. If you are considering the procedure, we also recommend that you come in for a consultation with Dr Moradi so that any questions or concerns can be properly addressed -- we encourage patients to be fully informed about the procedure before going ahead with treatment, and to have realistic expectations about both the surgery and recovery process.
