When considering any surgery, you have to feel well-informed of the post-surgery and recovery considerations.
In this blog, I answer some of the most common questions when it comes to tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) recovery.
What to wear after a tummy tuck?
Post-tummy tuck surgery, you will be required to wear a post-operative garment which usually goes around the midriff area.
I recommend tummy tuck patients get spandex garments or anything nice and tight in the abdominal region.
Why do I have to wear a post-operative garment?
The garment is there to try to hold all the swelling in and to give you some support, because the garment can feel a little bit uncomfortable.
How to reduce swelling after tummy tuck
Well, first and foremost is in the immediate post-op period we use drains and the drains can help take out any excess swelling after that minimal, minimal exercise. Not moving around too much and wearing the abdominal binder.
After the two-week mark, I like to get my patients to do lymphatic massage. That helps redistribute some of that fluid that accumulates in that region.
What is the recovery time after a tummy tuck?
You will generally require a one to three-night hospital stay, which will be followed by two to four weeks recovery time, during which you will need time off work.
You should be back to doing proper exercise about six to eight weeks post-operation.
