Breast Reconstruction (& Post-Cancer Cases)

Sadly, In Australia only 10% of women are offered reconstruction at the time of mastectomy.

Through awareness, voicing this issue will hopefully increase avoiding such disfiguring results.

What is a DIEP Flap?

This stands for Deep Inferior Epigastric Artery Perforator flap.

It is a form of transplant microsurgery, where we harvest the abdominal tissue and its microcirculation and reestablish blood flow to the vessels under the chest wall whilst simultaneously reshaping the tissue to mimic a breast.

What is Red Breast Syndrome?

Red breast syndrome represents an inflammatory condition that rarely occurs in the setting of acellular dermal matrix use after prosthetic reconstruction.
ie the biological mesh used in internal bra techniques NOT the Tiloop Mesh that I use

It is characterised by redness that occurs directly over the ADM, and its appearance resembles that of cellulitis. It can lead nearly to skin necrosis as in some cases.

Post Surgery Garments

Dr Moradi is pretty strict with the use of post-op garments. In general, he likes post-op patients to wear a strap at the bottom of the breasts to support the breast crease, and a strap above to help with upper pole control, plus a bra.

You will wear the straps for a month, the bra for 2-3 months. Unlike other surgeons, Dr Moradi likes underwire bras, as they provide higher support to the breast crease.

Dr Moradi always reminds patients to trust the process.
