What is rhinoplasty?

Everyone wants a nose which compliments their facial structure and features. Rhinoplasty is also referred to as a "nose job" and is the surgical enhancement of your nose to make it more aesthetically appealing to compliment your face. Additionally, you may require rhinoplasty because you have an injury or medical condition which is obstructing your breathing, such as a deviated septum. A nose job can remodel the contours of the nose by removing excess bone, cartilage and changing the supporting structures. Ultimately, this can result in correction of crookedness, misshapenness or disproportion, in addition to transforming the overall shape and size.

Dr Moradi will be able to show you a 3D image of what your nose might look like after rhinoplasty. Rather than Photoshop, Dr Moradi uses cutting-edge technology which produces a more reliable simulation of your nose before and after surgery.

How is rhinoplasty done?

The surgical procedure can be performed in two different ways under general anaesthesia. An incision may be made on the inside of the nose (closed rhinoplasty) or along the skin between the skin and nostrils (open rhinoplasty). The incisions allow Dr Moradi to sculpt the nose to your desired shape. The final result should be an aesthetically appealing nose which compliments your face.

What to expect after rhinoplasty surgery

After your rhinoplasty procedure you may have sutures in place for several days or up to two weeks, and breathing from your nose may be a little uncomfortable. The swelling, pain and discomfort will disappear over time and most people find they can return to work within one to two weeks after the operation.

Does Medicare cover rhinoplasty?

Medicare does not cover the costs of cosmetic surgical procedures. However in some medical circumstances  rhinoplasty is subsidised by Medicare. For example, if the surgery is being performed to correct nasal obstruction, post-traumatic deformity or developmental deformity. Dr Moradi will be able to tell you if your surgery is covered by Medicare.

How long does it take to recover from rhinoplasty?

Each person is unique, and your recovery from rhinoplasty will be too. Most people find they require one to two weeks of downtime from work. However, full healing may take months.

Is rhinoplasty dangerous?

A rhinoplasty performed by Dr Moradi is generally a safe procedure. All surgical procedures carry some element of risk and Dr Moradi will talk you through these at your first consultation.
