How long does swelling last after a brow lift?

Swelling can be expected after brow lift surgery, and can take several weeks to fully resolve.

If you have noticed some of the visible signs of ageing on your forehead and brow, such as frown lines and sagging eyebrows, you might consider a brow lift. The procedure helps to achieve a more youthful and alert appearance, and can go a long way in refreshing one's overall look. Read on to find out more about the procedure and what it involves, as well as what to expect from the recovery process...

What types of brow lift are available?

There are a number of techniques that can be used to perform a brow lift. A minimally invasive approach is the endoscopic brow lift -- during this procedure, your surgeon will place a video device and surgical instruments through small incisions in the hairline. This technique causes minimal scarring and results in a much shorter recovery time in comparison to other methods.

Other techniques include the coronal brow lift in which a long incision is made from ear to ear; and a lateral brow lift in which a short incision is made in the temporal hairline.

How long does recovery take?

The duration of your recovery period following brow lift surgery will depend on a number of factors, including the technique that your surgeon uses, as well as your overall health. You can expect to experience some swelling and bruising after the procedure -- these side effects can affect the site of surgery, as well as the surrounding areas such as the eyes and cheeks.

The post-surgical swelling will be at its worst for the first few days following surgery. You can minimise this swelling by keeping your head elevated as much as possible, including when you sleep. The swelling should begin to resolve within a week or two, but it is important to know that the full extent of your swelling may take several weeks to completely subside. You may find it helpful to apply cold packs to your brow and face in order to reduce swelling throughout the recovery process.

Why consider a brow lift?

There are a number of benefits to choosing brow lift surgery if you have noticed creases in your forehead; frown lines between your eyebrows; and sagging eyebrows. The procedure helps to resolve all of these issues to achieve a more youthful and alert appearance. It is possible to have a brow lift performed at the same time as other cosmetic treatments, including face lift and eyelid rejuvenation procedures. If you are interested in multiple treatments, it is worth discussing this with your surgeon at your initial consultation. Your surgeon will let you know what your options are, depending on your concerns and aesthetic goals.
