How long do breast implants last?

Breast implants should last for between 10 and 20 years.

If you are considering breast augmentation surgery, you might be wondering how long you can expect your implants to last. In most cases, breast implants should last for many years, but there are some reasons patients to choose to have them removed and replaced. Read on to find out how long you can expect your implants to last, why you might consider a removal, and what the replacement process involves...

How long do they last?

Breast implants are designed to last for many years. In fact, they don't actually ever expire. That said, they are not generally expected to last for a lifetime, and usually last between 10 and 20 years. In some cases, women choose to have their implants removed in time, but it is also possible to have them replaced if your cosmetic goals change.

Why are breast implants removed?

There are a number of reasons why breast implants might be removed. Patients who are concerned with asymmetry, implant deflation and breast pain may choose to have their implants removed. In cases where a mammogram is required for breast cancer screening, it is often necessary to undergo breast implant removal surgery. Breast cancer treatment is typically more effective after implant removal.

Implants may need to be removed in the case of complications such as rupture, severe capsular contracture, implant malposition, discomfort caused by hardening implants, double bubble deformity, size changes, breast implant illness and anaplastic large cell lymphoma.

In other cases, patients are simply not satisfied with the results of a previous procedure. Dr Moradi is able to remove and replace implants for an enhanced appearance.

Can implants be replaced?

It is possible to have implants replaced if you are not happy with the results of a previous procedure. Dr Moradi performs breast implant revision surgery for patients who have experienced issues after breast implant surgery, previous breast augmentation, or implant-based reconstruction surgery. To make sure that you are happy with the results of your revision surgery, Dr Moradi will begin the process with a consultation in which you can discuss your areas of concern, as well as your particular aesthetic goals.

What implants are available?

Dr Moradi offers Motiva Demi implants, which are designed to develop natural contours. They are a popular choice for patients who are looking for a fuller look, while still maintaining a very natural-looking aesthetic. They help to restore volume to the chest and can be placed either above or below the pectoral muscle, depending on the case.
